FireKeepers Casino Hotel Provides Notice of Data Security IncidentBATTLECREEK, Mich., July 3, 2015 /PRNewswire/ – FireKeepers Casino Hotel today is confirming a recent unauthorized access into its computer systems, and providing additional details about the incident.  FireKeepers takes protecting the data in its systems seriously, and has undertaken an aggressive response, including implementing security upgrades, and providing information and support to anyone who may have been affected. On April 16, 2015, FireKeepers learned of a possible security incident involving payment card information.  FireKeepers immediately engaged independent IT forensic experts to assist with its investigation, and has been cooperating with law enforcement.  While the investigation is still ongoing, it appears that approximately 85,000 credit and debit cards used between September 7, 2014, and April 25, 2015 for food, beverage and retail purchases may have been affected.  The information may include card number, cardholder name, verification code, and/or the card’s expiration date.  Patron information contained in the Red Hot Rewards Club database was not affected and remains secure.  Cards used for hotel reservations, cash advances and ATM transactions, which are processed through separate systems, also were not affected. The security compromise has been contained and payment cards have been processed securely since April 26, 2015.During the course of our investigation, on May 6, 2015, FireKeepers also determined that there may have been unauthorized access to a file storage server, which contained the personal information of certain customers, employees and their dependents. This data includes Social Security numbers and/or driver’s license numbers. Health benefit selection and medical billing information of current and former employees and their dependents were also stored on this file server.  Neither FireKeepers nor its forensic investigators have found any evidence of unauthorized access or misuse of the personal information.  Potentially affected individuals will be receiving letters with information and resources and are encouraged to call (855) 861-4021 with any questions. The privacy and protection of customer and employee information is a top priority for FireKeepers, which deeply regrets any inconvenience or concern this incident may cause.  Steps taken to help prevent this type of event from occurring in the future include installing new payment card processing equipment to ensure that credit and debit cards can be used safely at the casino, hotel, and for food or retail purchases on FireKeepers’ property.  Additionally, FireKeepers is increasing firewall protections and implementing two-factor authentication to further secure information in its computer systems. As an added precaution, FireKeepers is offering credit monitoring and identity protection services free of charge through AllClear ID.  To take advantage of these services please visit www.firekeepers.allclearid.com.Patrons are encouraged to monitor their credit and debit card accounts, and contact their bank if they notice any suspicious activity.  Additional information and recommendations for protecting personal information can be found on the FireKeepers website at www.firekeeperscasino.com/data-sec.
